Shots Fired During Armed Robbery At Summertown Market

Shots were fired, but no one injured, when a robber targeted a Summertown market Thursday afternoon.

Officials with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department report that the armed robbery occurred at J&C Grocery, 4821 Summertown Highway around 3:20 p.m.

Owners reported that an armed man entered the store, pulled a gun and demanded money from the cash register. As he exited, he ordered those inside to stand in a corner farthest from the door, however the owner followed him outside and shots were subsequently exchanged.

Deputies reported that the robber fired a total of five shots and the market owner three. At that point the robber reportedly fled in a small tan truck, traveling toward Hohenwald.

A BOLO was quickly issued and area law enforcement officials began a search for the suspect. They were unable to locate him at that time, but warned that he was to be considered armed and dangerous.

The robber was described as a white male in his 40s, 5’8” to 5’11” in height, with a thin build. He was clean-shaven with short brown hair.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department at 931-796-5096.
